A new Marvel story told through Magic

Wizards of the Coast has announced Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, a Universes Beyond set built around Marvel’s supernatural characters and realms. The publisher says this is an original story created with Marvel and shaped by Wizards’ Narrative team, with a dimension-hopping plot involving the Dark Dimension and Marvel’s pantheon of gods.

The announcement identifies Magik as one character entering Magic through her stepping disks and says several Marvel heroes and villains will make their Magic debut. Wizards has started a card image gallery, so this is more than a title and date reveal, though the complete set list and gameplay details are still to come.

A comic introduces a new character

The story will include the origin of a brand-new character in a Marvel Comics release written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly. Wizards lists a digital release for February 2027 and a physical release for April 2027. It says its own Narrative team developed the story with Magic in mind before the comic adaptation.

That gives readers a story lead-in ahead of the tabletop launch, but Wizards has not yet named the new character in this announcement or provided the comic’s exact release day. We will update those details when Marvel or Wizards confirms them.

Prerelease starts a week before launch

The tabletop release is scheduled for 9 April 2027. Wizards Play Network lists prerelease events from 2 through 8 April, giving local stores a full week of early play. Store event scheduling opens 11 January, and Wizards lists a 22 January distributor selection deadline.

The announced lineup includes Booster Packs and Collector Boosters, four Commander decks plus four Collector’s Edition Commander decks, two Scene Boxes, a Bundle, an Arcanum Bundle, Draft Night and prerelease packs. No set-specific prices are included in the announcement, so retailer listings may be the first place regional pricing appears.

What collectors and players know so far

For collectors, Wizards promises new Booster Fun treatments and a broader range of Marvel characters, alongside the separate comic story. Commander players have four decks to look forward to, although their names, themes, contents and card lists have not yet been detailed in the official materials reviewed for this story.

For now, the useful dates are the 2–8 April prerelease window and 9 April release. The card gallery will develop the checklist as previews continue; individual card value, deck strength and product availability cannot be assessed from the announcement alone.
